Day 08 - Jet Jaguar
June Sketch-a-Day
good two friends
:iconkileybeecher: and :icongadgetwk:
have teamed up with me as we take turns and pick a subject from day to day and sketch a piece everyday.

dont know who this guy is. hes a godzilla guy... i kid you not. this guy has fought or teamed up with Godzilla... im not sure which. ha. subject chosen Jonathan. as i researched this guy i came across a few updated drawings of him where people modernized him some. particularly the face/mask. so i decided to do that style. cause this is basically some power ranger stuff right here. and yeah... it is what it is. some fast rendered colors thrown down via SAI.

He may have been in a bad movie, but he's one really cool robot. I plan making a fanfic with him in it.

Jet Jaguar was a simply an attempt to cash in on Ultraman, as was the toho series Zone Fighter, an Ultraman type show that guest starred Godzilla in numerous episodes. I like Jet Jaguar alot myself...He's got a certain something that makes him his own thing.

I remember this character.  He appeared in Godzilla Versus Megalon in 1975, one of my favorite Godzilla movies as a kid.  I always wondered where this character came from.  I wonder if Toho wanted to create a costumed hero for its monster series?

Always happy to see someone else remembers the movies.

Actually the character Jet Jaguar was created by a child as part of a contest to create a character for a Godzilla movie:)

actually Toho didn't create Jet Jaguar, the character was created by a kid. Toho had a contest for kids, supposedly, to create a character for the Godzilla movies, and apparently that kid was...ahem..."highly influenced" by the Ultraman character, to say the least :P

Knew that... And When I first saw the film as a kid, I actually thought it WAS Ultraman, and kept asking why he didn't fire the Specium beam!! And Toho also was "highly influenced" by Ultraman when they created Zone Fighter, arguably even more so than Jet Jaguar is!

I was lucky enough to first see it in the theater...One of the first films I ever saw! For some reason, though, when I think back to my rememberance of the theater experiance, I cannot understand why I thought Godzilla had spikes comin out of the sides of his neck! O.o I had strange thoughts when I was little....Still do...:)

The way I interpreted it, Jet Jaguar was an android summoned by the kid in Godzilla vs Megalon to aid in battling the bad guys.  Compared to Ultraman or other "Sentai" characters, it does make him stand out.

I'd love to see if Zone Fighter ever saw any popularity boost from having the Big G trudging around in it.  Maybe they'll have DVDs of past seasons somewhere?

Actually, the kid's older brothor, Godo, an inventor, built him. And as for Zone Fighter, the episodes are available on tape here, I assume on dvd in Japan. As for finding them, I've been out of that loop for a while...
